One-click fraud is exploding

Information-Technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA), an independent administrative institution, announced on July 3 how many reports on Internet security threat it received in June.

According to the announcement, the number of reports on one-click fraud rose to 694, which reached a record-high.

Asahi Newspaper takes over CNET Japan

The Asahi Shimbun Company, one of Japan's major newspaper publishers, announced Wednesday that it is planning to integrate CNET Networks Japan K.K. under its umbrella and take over the CNET Japan and ZDNet Japan operation on September 1.

Asahi Shimbun is expected to make a comprehensive licensing agreement with CBS Interactive on the takeover.

Android keitai due out on July 10 in Japan

NTT DoCoMo Inc. has decided to release its first Android-based cellphone docomo PRO series HT-03A on July 10.

The HT-03A will be available from DoCoMo dealers around Japan.

An HT-03A handset itself will cost you high ¥20,000s on the given offer or ¥31,500 higher without the offer.

Tethering features are unavailable on iPhone 3G S in Japan

Although the iPhone 3G S features a tethering function, it is unavailable in Japan.

The function will allow you to use the iPhone 3G S as a modem for your PC to connect to the Internet.

The iPhone service provider in Japan, Softbank Mobile (SBM) Corp., says it will not provide a service that enables the tethering function under its flat-rate charging systems.

Safari works much faster on iPhone 3G S

The iPhone 3G S's “S” means “speed,” so each application works faster on the iPhone 3G S than its predecessor, the iPhone 3G; even if the iPhone 3G's OS is upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0.

Especially, the Safari web browser on the iPhone 3G S shows a web page about three times faster than the iPhone 3G when it is connected to the IEEE 802.11g Wi-Fi network, according to a benchmark test which was conducted by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc., one of the major publishing companies in Japan.

Eye-Fi connects to photo/video sites via NTT Com's Wi-Fi for free

Eye-Fi Japan K.K. announced on June 25 that you can now use its SD memory card, the Eye-Fi Share, for digital camera to upload photos you take to photo sharing/storing sites or your PC via NTT Communications (NTT Com) Corp.'s Wi-Fi service for free.

The Wi-Fi service is called “HOTSPOT connect,” which is available around Japan.

The HOTSPOT connect service is available as well when you upload videos using Eye-Fi's SD memory card, the Eye-Fi Share Video, for camcorder.

As many as 200 people lined up in droves for iPhone 3G S

The iPhone 3G S was released on June 26 in Japan from Softbank Mobile (SBM) Corp.

In front of SBM's flagship shop at Omotesando, Tokyo, about 200 people formed a long queue to get an iPhone 3G S smartphone at seven o'clock in the morning on June 26, the time the phone began to sell at the shop.
