Gourmet Navigator Inc., Japan's gourmet Web service giant, released its application for Android-based mobile phones on April 27.

The application Guru-nabi is available from the Android Market for free.

Softbank Corp. announced on April 27 that it began to offer its localized Japanese version of Ustream on that day.

The Japanese version of Ustream has been partially localized as of that day.

Samsung unveiled its Android-based smartphone GALAXY S in Tokyo, Japan on April 23.

Samsung has yet to announce when it will hit Japan's market and how much it will cost.

FIFA World Cup games on TV in 3D (2)

The 3D broadcasting service “Sony Presents ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa 3D,’” which SKY Perfect JSAT Corp. and Sony Corp. will begin to provide on June 19, will be available on the CS channel “Suka-chan 3D169.”

And the channel will be implemented in the Sky Perfect TV! HD service and the Sky Perfect TV! Hikari service.

Softbank Mobile (SBM) Corp. announced on April 22 that it will provide a femtocell BS for its customer's home or store.

SBM is expected to begin to receive applications of its femtocell BS on May 10.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (63) -- CATV keeps on going with analog TV? [3]

Japan Cablenet (JCN) Ltd., KDDI Corp.'s affiliate, announced Wednesday that it will convert the digital terrestrial television broadcasting to the existing analog format and relay it to the subscribers from July 24, 2011 through March 31, 2015.

Therefore, JCN will continue to relay analog and digital terrestrial television broadcasting simultaneously until March 31, 2015.

JCN is a CATV MSO (multiple system operator), which now retains 18 CATV stations in some areas in Japan such as Kanto.
