Mobile WiMAX has taken off in Japan

UQ Communications Inc. began to conduct the trial offering of its Mobile WiMAX service UQ WiMAX on Thursday.

The trial service will continue until June 30, targeting at 5,000 monitors under the coverage of some 500 base stations installed in part of Kanto region: in 23 wards of Tokyo as well as Kawasaki City and Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The commercial service is expected to start on July 1 and cover more than 90% of the population in Japan by the end of 2012.
