Universal Service Fee

Have you yet found that you are paying ¥7 (¥7.35 including consumption tax) surcharge a telephone number every month since January 2007?

For instance, if you have one cellphone subscribed you are charged ¥7.35 as well as basic rate and call/data communications rate.

This surcharge is for covering the deficits incurred by NTT East Corp. and NTT West Corp. to provide their mandatory universal fixed-line services that are unprofitable in rural areas.
