New Kindle with better contrast (1)

Amazon.com, Inc. released its new Kindle on July 1, U.S. Time.

Its new Kindle DX will begin to be shipped on July 7.

It costs 379 USD and Amazon is taking pre-orders for it on its website.

E-book business planning company has been established in Japan

Sony Corp., Toppan Printing Co., Ltd., KDDI Corp. and The Asahi Shimbun Company announced on July 1 that they had established their planning company that deals with e-book business on that day.

The planning company will convert to an operating company that builds and runs its platform where digital content such as book, comic, magazine, and newspaper is collectively delivered

The operating company is expected to begin to deliver its content before the end of this year.

Dual-display mobile PC from Onkyo

Onkyo Corp. will launch a note PC with a dual-display on July 3.

Its dual-display note PC DX1015A4 has two 10.1-inch LCD screens, each of which can work independently: for example, one screen for TV and the other for Web.

It runs on Windows 7 Home Premium, measures 280 - 520 (W) x 19 - 42 (H) x 210 (D) mm, and weighs 1,800 grams.

It is expected to have a street price of about ¥74,800.

Kindle gets on Android

Amazon.com, Inc. on June 27, U.S. Time, began to provide an application that Kindle-enables Android devices.

Its application Kindle for Android will allow the users to read e-books intended for Amazon's Kindle on their Android-based device.

Android-based device users can download the application from Amazon's website dedicated to the Kindle for Android for free.

White iPhone 4 will come in late July

Apple Inc. announced on June 24 that it will begin to supply units of the iPhone 4 in white in the second half of July.

Apple says it is more difficult to manufacture white units of the iPhone 4 than expected.

Black units are selling as scheduled.

Android navigates golf course (3) -- So does iPhone

A mobile application for golfers Golf-ruzu, the official name of which is Golfuls on the Android Market, is also available on the iPone.

The application for the iPhone was released on April 21, 2010 and more than 29,000 iPhone users have downloaded it as of June 25.

Android navigates golf course (2)

An Android application for golfers Golf-ruzu measures distance on and navigates a golf course by exploiting GPS functions of an Android-based mobile.

The application can measure distance along a three-point line when it predicts the two points where the ball will be landing after the golfer make each of the two shots.

It has data on about 2,400 golf courses in Japan and will allow the user to make a sore card, record a history of shots, and analyze a score.
