Weather report based on viewer-provided information (1)

TV Asahi Corp., a TV station in Japan, and Weathernews Inc., a commercial weather information service provider in Japan, announced Monday that they will begin to offer a weather report based on viewer-provided information that day.

The weather report is provided on TV Asahi's data broadcasting channel.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (58) -- IPTV on NGN covers Miyagi and Niigata

NTT Plala Inc. and I-Cast, Inc. announced Tuesday that it will begin to relay terrestrial digital TV broadcasts in some areas of Miyagi and Niigata Prefectures through their IPTV service Hikari TV on the NGN platform Flet's Hikari Next on March 2, 2010.

NTT Plala and I-Cast have already begun the relay offering in Osaka, Tokyo, Aichi, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Hyogo, Kyoto, Hokkaido, Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Hiroshima Prefectures so far.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (57) -- Chideji via BS

The Association for Promotion of Digital Broadcasting (Dpa) announced on January 29 the areas and the number of households in the areas that will need to receive chideji (terrestrial digital TV broadcasting) through the BS system due to poor reception in the terrestrial broadcasting.

As of that day, the number of areas and the number of households in the areas in Kanagawa Prefecture are 40 and 2,669 respectively.

In Tochigi, 14 and 2,559; in Tokyo, 1 and 179.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (56) -- PS3-branded chideji tuner [2]

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan's PS3-dedicated chideji (terrestrial digital TV broadcasting) tuner torne connects to the PS3 via a USB cable.

The connection between the torne and the PS3 using a USB cable allows you to watch chideji programs and record them on the HDD of the PS3.

The torne, coming with its own software, will cost ¥9,980 when it goes on sale in Japan in March.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (55) -- PS3-branded chideji tuner [1]

Are you ready for chideji?

The PS3 will allow for it.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) announced on January 14 that it will launch a chideji (terrestrial digital TV broadcasting) tuner dedicated to the Play Station 3 (PS3) in March.

Its tuner torne connects to the PS3 via a USB cable.

NTT Plala Inc. and I-Cast, Inc. announced Wednesday that it will begin to relay terrestrial digital TV broadcasts in some areas of Shizuoka and Hiroshima Prefectures through their IPTV service Hikari TV on the NGN platform Flet's Hikari Next on January 13, 2010.

NTT Plala and I-Cast have already begun the relay offering in Osaka, Tokyo, Aichi, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Hyogo, Kyoto, Hokkaido, and Fukuoka Prefectures so far.
