Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (31)--Turn your eyes to U.S. again

The Nielsen Co. announced on June 10 (U.S. Time) how households in the U.S. have been ready for the transition from analog to digital television broadcasting that is due on June 12, according to its survey.

The survey result shows that as many as 2.8 million households have not prepared equipment necessary for the transition.

These households account for about 2.5% of the total.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (30)--Condominium buildings interrupt DTV airwaves [1]

Only 14% of the condominium buildings that interrupt analog TV airwaves and install a repeater were renovated so that the households around them can receive terrestrial digital TV airwaves as of December 2008.

The number of 14% is quoted from the results of the survey that was conducted by the national joint association of condominium building administrators, one of the incorporated nonprofit organizations in Japan.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (29)--IPTV on NGN covers Chiba and Saitama

NTT Plala Inc. and I-Cast, Inc. announced Monday that it will begin to relay terrestrial digital TV broadcasts in Chiba and Saitama through their IPTV service Hikari TV on the NGN platform Flet's Hikari Next on May 26.

NTT Plala and I-Cast have begun that in Osaka, Tokyo, Aichi, and Kanagawa so far.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (28)--Hikari TV on PC

Are you enjoying IPTV through FTTH?

To enjoy it, you have another option now.

The IPTV service Hikari TV, which is provided by NTT Plala Inc., will be available on some PCs from NEC Corp., the VALUESTAR N series, without an STB from April 16, NTT Plala announced on April 14.

The PCs include the VN778/TG01B due to hit the shelves on April 16 and the GV281A/DE, GV281B/DE, and GV281C/DE that are built on the order placed on the Web site.

NHK provides One Seg-specific programs

NHK (nippon hoso kyokai) launched programs specific to One Seg on its educational channel on April 6.

The channel used to broadcast same programs as those for TV installed at home.

NHK says the channel, renamed as NHK One-Seg 2, will play a role as catalyst that leads way to fusion of broadcasting and communications.

Are the programs bilingual?

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (27)--Trial run for transition

Would you like to give your TV set a trial run for the complete transition from analog to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting?

The trial run would be given to your TV set if you live in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

The city has been singled out to perform the trial run, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) announced on April 6.

The trial run is expected to done by March 2010.

Are you ready for the full-scale transition due on July 24, 2011?

Today the countdown counter indicates “834 days” to the complete transition to the Chideji and the digital BS system.

Survival in digitization of TV in Japan (26)―Realignment of frequency allocations [1]

You may need to have your Chideji TV reconfigured owing to the realignment of terrestrial digital TV broadcasting frequency allocations.

The realignment schedule the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) renewed on April 3 indicates that the realignment, due to be done on and after July 25, 2011, will affect about 600 thousand households in the 80 repeater-station-coverage areas, including Noshiro, Akita; Suwa, Nagano; and Hagi, Yamaguchi.

July 25, 2011 is the day after the transition from analog to digital terrestrial TV broadcasting is expected to completely finish in Japan.
