KDDI acquires capital in J:COM (2)

By taking an equity stake of 37.8% in J:COM, Japan's CATV MSO (multiple system operator) giant, this month, KDDI Corp. will lift the domestic market share of its ISP-related business to about 12%.

The number of 12% will help KDDI keep up with NTT whose share is about 30%.

KDDI acquires capital in J:COM (1)

KDDI Corp. announced Monday that it will acquire capital in Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (J:COM).

KDDI will take an equity stake of 37.8% in J:COM, Japan's CATV MSO (multiple system operator) giant, to become its largest shareholder in the middle of February.

Hang message tag on Christmas tree by iPhone

How many applications have you installed on your iPhone?

Tokyu Hands Inc., Japan's large variety store chain giant, released an application for the iPhone that works with the storefront display panel at its branch in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday.

The application HANDS Xmas allows the user to enter a message on her/his iPhone and show the message on the image of a Christmas tree pictured on the panel by making a gesture of throwing her/his iPhone toward the panel.

The HANDS Xmas application is available from the App Store for free.

Google Japan launches TV commercial

Google Japan Inc. began to put on its TV commercial on November 20.

Google U.S. has launched a TV commercial on a trial basis before, but this is the first time for Google Japan to show up on a TV commercial.

SONY's 3-D strategy set to improve home appliances (2)

Sony's new strategy to enhance its 3D-enabled home appliances involves improvement of hardware and content.

As for hardware, Sony will make 3D-enabled its LCD television sets BRAVIA series, Blu-ray Disk (BD) products, personal computers VAIO series, and video game console Play Station 3.

The BRAVIA, which Sony considers to play a core part in in-home 3D entertainment, is expected to display full hi-definition 3D images by using Sony's proprietary technology for quad-high-speed displaying of moving images.

However, you will still need to wear special glasses to enjoy the images.

Sony Corp. announced Thursday that it will begin to enhance its 3D-enabled home appliances in 2010.

The whole Sony group will develop and produce both hardware and content to promote 3D image display on home appliances.

CNET Networks Japan K.K. is reborn as Asahi Interactive, Inc.

The Asahi Shimbun Company, one of Japan's major newspaper publishers, announced Tuesday that it has acquired all the businesses of CNET Networks Japan K.K. from the American media conglomerate CBS and relegated them to its newly-established company Asahi Interactive, Inc.

Asahi Interactive operates the websites of CNET Japan and ZDNet Japan under the licensing agreement with the CBS conglomerate.
