Toshiba tries again even harder with Blu-ray
Toshiba Corp. announced Monday that it will launch Blu-ray-enabled devices within the year.
Blu-ray disc (BD) players and BD drive-equipped PCs are expected to come from Toshiba later this year.
Toshiba pulled the plug on HD-DVD last year and now is giving in to Blu-ray.

Asahi Newspaper takes over CNET Japan
The Asahi Shimbun Company, one of Japan's major newspaper publishers, announced Wednesday that it is planning to integrate CNET Networks Japan K.K. under its umbrella and take over the CNET Japan and ZDNet Japan operation on September 1.
Asahi Shimbun is expected to make a comprehensive licensing agreement with CBS Interactive on the takeover.

USEN Corp. and K-Opticom Corp. announced Wednesday that they have made USEN's online music delivery service OnGen USEN MUSIC SERVER available to the members of K-Opticom's ID service eoID.
The delivery service is provided for the members on the Web site OnGen for eo.
The members can sign on the Web site using their ID and password that have been issued based on the eoID system.
The system is intended for managing the members so that they can utilize multiple services with one ID/password.
Is it worth trying to see if a practical Single Sign-On system has come to homes?

Mercedes-Benz Japan gets on i-mode
Mercedes-Benz Japan Co., Ltd. has established its mobile web page in i-mode, NTT DoCoMo Inc.'s official mobile website service.
The mobile web page, Mercedes Benz, will allow you to read specifications of its cars, ask for a quotation of the car cost, search for its dealers, and so forth.
Mercedes-Benz Japan is also going to launch its official mobile web pages that are optimized for handheld devices from KDDI Corp. (au) and Softbank Mobile (SBM) Corp. before long.
Will the mobile pages lure you to Mercedes Benz dealers?

WSJ in Japanese to be launched
SBI Holdings, Inc. announced Thursday that it has decided to work with Dow Jones & Company, Inc. to release Japanese-language online The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) this month.
The Japanese-language WSJ will be the second WSJ that is issued on the Internet in a language other than English; the first is in Chinese-language, which was launched in 2002.

Note PC with LCD touchpad (2)--LCD does matter
The notebook PC Mebius PC-NJ70A, which is the one SHARP Corp. will conjure for the first time in a year, features an LCD touchpad.
The LCD touchpad has a 4-inch, 854x480-pixel screen.
It can be used as an input device; for example, it will allow you to enter characters or overwrite the displayed photo with characters and illustrations.
However, the LCD touchpad doesn't work as sub-display for Windows.
The PC, due to hit the market in mid-May at the expected price of ¥80,000, measures 260x190x23.3-39.8 mm, weighs about 1.46 kg, and runs on Windows Vista Home Basic. And it has a 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, a 10.1-inch, 1024x600-pixel screen, 160-GB hard disk, and 1 GB of RAM.
