iPod to involve copyright fee? (2)
With respect to the plan for levying a copyright fee on portable music players and recorders with a built-in hard disk that are designed to record TV programs, the Agency for Cultural Affairs will put it to the panel under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) on May 8.
The plan dissociates versatile systems such as PCs and devices with major use other than recording such as mobile phones from the ones on which the copyright-fee will be imposed.
At the panel, manufactures of the music players and the recorders will be against the plan due to higher price of these products that is expected to accompany the copyright fee.
On the other hand, copyright bodies will try to drive the plan behind the shield of Dubbing 10 that is scheduled to begin operation on June 2.
