Panasonic to abandon founder's name

Panasonic will indicate all related to the company, including the company names and brands.

Panasonic is one of the two brands for products made by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. The other brand is National.

The company uses Panasonic for its overseas products and domestic audio-visual ones.

National is for domestic white goods such as fridges and washing machines.

And Matsushita is the company founder's name.

However, the company has decided to gradually unify its own name, the names of its affiliates, and the two brands into one designation - that is Panasonic - from October 2008 in order to improve the company's competitiveness in global markets.
